"Ekaterina" opens with the notorious Russian empress on her deathbed, making her final confession to the Orthodox Patriarch. As she describes the major events of her life from the time she was a minor German princess, through her disastrous marriage and usurpation of the imperial throne, her numerous love affairs, etc., they are re-enacted by members of the Ensemble, all of whom perform multiple roles. Large cast of 37 actor-singer-dancers. Orchestra: minimum of 24 musicians. Period costumes. Variousl locales indicated with rear projections and minimal set pieces, furniture and props.
