We are seeking a Production Designer / Art Department Lead for a cinematic proof-of-concept short film shooting in Los Angeles. This is a highly atmospheric, character-driven project where production design is central. The film takes place inside a single location: a lived-in, aging apartment belonging to an elderly woman. βΈ» π Project Overview We are shooting a 1β2 day proof-of-concept for a feature film. The tone is psychological, intimate, and subtly unsettling, focused on memory and emotional life expressed through space. The apartment includes three main areas: * Kitchen * Living / dining area * Bedroom These spaces should feel like a continuous emotional world, shaped by decades of use, not staged or minimal. The environment should feel: * densely lived-in and accumulated over time * imperfect, cluttered, and specific * grounded in realism with cinematic atmosphere * emotionally expressive through objects and layout βΈ» π¨ Responsibilities You will transform a pre-rented furnished apartment/house into a cohesive cinematic environment through: * Set dressing across kitchen, living/dining, and bedroom * Building layered visual storytelling through objects and detail * Curating props that suggest history, routine, and isolation * Shaping spatial psychology through clutter, wear, and composition * Collaborating with director and cinematographer on framing and tone * Maintaining continuity of character across all rooms Ideal Candidate * Production design student (upper-year / MFA) or emerging art director * Strong understanding of character-driven interiors * Interest in psychological / atmospheric storytelling * Experience in student or indie film art department work * Skilled in realism, imperfection, and lived-in environments βΈ» π Details * Los Angeles area * 1β2 shoot days + prep time * Paid (indie budget, negotiable) * Production Designer credit + portfolio footage
